Dr. Prince has served as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Waynesville since February 2003 coming from First Baptist Church of Vernon, Texas. He has a B.A. from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and a Masters of Divinity and Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He has taught for Southwestern and New Orleans Baptist Seminaries and Wayland Baptist University, and has had articles and sermons published in various journals. His hobbies include exercising, watching old movies and golf.
Rev. Mitch Huskison holds a Bachelors Degree in Church Music from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi and a Masters of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He began his service at First Baptist Waynesville in March 2006. Prior to joining the staff at FBC, he served churches in Georgia, Kentucky, and Mississippi. He is married to Rev. Christi Sanders-Huskison and they share the joy of rearing twin boys.
Rev. Dan Smith holds a Bachelors of Art degree in Psychology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA and a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Dan has served at First Baptist Church since February 2004 and encourages all youth, parents and workers to be a part of a variety of youth ministries. Prior to joining the staff at First Baptist Church, he served churches in Dayton, OH; Dalton, GA; and Miami, FL. He is married to Leslie and they have two daughters, Amy and Jessica.
Meet our Children's Ministry Coordinators, Myra Clemmons and Emily Fleenor. Both Myra and Emily have taught in the Haywood County School System (Myra is now retired). Myra is married to Micky and they have three children, Cayli Pankratz who is married to Stephen; Josh who is married to Brooke; and Zach. Joyce Brooks Russell has served as one of our ministry assistants since 2008. She brings to her work a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with people. She is native to the Waynesville area and lives at Lake Junaluska with her husband Hugh, a United Methodist minister and her beautiful white German Shepard, Chance. Joyce has one son, Joshua Brooks Corn who is studying naturopathic medicine in Portland, OR. She is a member of Grace Church in the Mountains where she serves as lay eucharist minister and visitor.
Debbie Shepard, a native of Asheville, has been a ministerial assistant at First Baptist since 1994. She is the oldest daughter of eight children. She began her career as a part time secretary/bookkeeper at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton.
Debbie makes her home in Canton and has been married 41 years to George Shepard who works at Evergreen Packaging. They are members of Crestview Baptist Church in Canton. She has two daughters, Heidi Sams (Michael) and Hayley Prince (Preston). She also has two grandsons, Bradley and Bryton Sams. Her hobbies include playing with her grandsons, reading. and cooking.
